Out of all the billionaires in the world, only about 12% of them are women. These are the 7(seven) richest women in the world and how they got their fortunes.


#1 CHRISTY WALTON

At number one spot we have CHRISTY WALTON. She is the widow of John Walton, one of the heirs to the Wal-Mart fortune. She has expanded her net worth to $41.7 billion by smartly investing her inheritance in growing companies such as First Solar. She's also one of the ten richest people in the world.



#2 LILIANE BETTENCOURT

At number 2 spot we have LILIANE BETTENCOURT. She is the second richest woman in the world. Her $40.7 billion net worth comes from being one of the biggest shareholders in the cosmetic company L'Oreal. Though her father built the company, she was working in it since the age of 15. Now at the age of 92, she lives in Paris and is a philantropist.


#3 ALICE WALTON

At number 3 spot we have ALICE WALTON. Yes, you've probably guessed it, Alice Walton is an heir to the Wal-Mart fortune. Her chunk of the change comes to about $39.4 billion. She is famous for giving away a lot of her money however as she is a great philanthropist and has donated billions.


#4 JACQUELINE MARS

At number 4 spot we have JACQUELINE MARS. She is heir to another company that gave us a lot of the chocolately goods that we love. Her name says it all. Mars, Inc produces candies such as Mars bars, Milky Ways, M&Ms and Snickers. She is the daughter and granddaughter of the founders and together with her brothers now controls the company. She has a net worth of about $27 billion.


#5 MARIA FRANCA FISSOLO

At number 5 spot we have MARIA FRANCA FISSOLO. She is the richest person in Italy and the 5th richest woman in the world. She is worth about $23.4 billion and it all comes from her late husband's company called the Ferrero group. It might not sound like much, but you'll probably recognize one of it's best sellers, Nutella.


#6 LAURENE POWELL JOBS

At number 6 spot we have LAURENE POWELL JOBS. Steve Jobs passed away, he left his widow Laurene Powell Jobs with a considerable amount of cash, helping to land her in the number 6 spot on this list. But that isn't the only thing that added to her purse of $19.5 billion. She is also the largest single shareholder of Disney stock and she founded the Emerson Collective and College Track.


#7 ANNE COX CHAMBERS

At number 7 spot we have ANNE COX CHAMBERS. She is the majority share holder of the media congolmerate Cox Enterprises. She still sits on the company's board even though she is now 95 years old. She has a net worth of around $17 billion.
